Data Collection

Basic information

We log usage of the site using standard web server logs. This lets us see what word is being searched and the IP address of the searcher. It also tells us what type of browser you are using and what preferences you have set with us. It does not tell us who you are. This information is used for Web site and system administration, and for research and development and is not provided to others without privacy protection. We do not collect any medical/health information. The web site is based in Ontario, Canada, and we will comply with or exceed privacy requirements set by Ontario and by Canadian law.

Cookies

At the user's option, we will collect HTTP cookies, which allows us to determine your preferences. Cookies are also used to determine the version of the software you are using. If you block the use of cookies, some features may stop working.

Database logging

The Reference.MD search page stores a subset of the search terms used, and most particularly those terms that were looked up but not found. These terms are collected in a relational database for the analysis of patterns. This helps us to add terms to the site and improve the spelling correction programs.

Mailing registration

If you register with us, we collect the following information from you:

  • e-mail address
  • option to receive a newsletter
  • preference data

This may be used to contact visitors when their license expires and to transmit news and information related to Reference.MD to those who opt for it.

Policy Evaluation

If the "webmaster version" of Reference.MD is used by a site, Reference.MD preferences may be considered a persistent third-party cookie.
