Definition: Cells propagated in vitro in special media conducive to their growth. Cultured cells are used to study developmental, morphologic, metabolic, physiologic, and genetic processes, among others.  note category: do not confuse with CELL CULTURE TECHNIQUES (Cat E); not for bact or other micro-organisms; almost always NIM with no subheadings; check HUMANS or ANIMALS; do not routinely add tissue or organ; TUMOR CELLS, CULTURED is available
