Definition: Red blood cells. Mature erythrocytes are non-nucleated, biconcave disks containing HEMOGLOBIN whose function is to transport OXYGEN.  vertebrates only; for invertebrates index under HEMOCYTES; /cytol: consider also ERYTHROCYTE INDICES; do not equate /pathol with ERYTHROCYTES, ABNORMAL; erythrocyte antibodies: index BLOOD GROUP ANTIGENS /immunol + ISOANTIBODIES & do not index under ERYT
