Definition: A large group of facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria that show up as pink (negative) when treated by the gram-staining method.  GEN: avoid; prefer specifics; infection: coord IM with GRAM-NEGATIVE BACTERIAL INFECTIONS (IM)
