Definition: Pesticides designed to control insects that are harmful to man. The insects may be directly harmful, as those acting as disease vectors, or indirectly harmful, as destroyers of crops, food products, or textile fabrics.  for use to kill or control insects, use no qualifiers on the insecticide or the insect; appropriate qualifiers may be used when other aspects of the insecticide are discussed such as the effect on a physiologic process or behavioral aspect of the insect.
