Definition: Those protein complexes or molecular sites on the surfaces and cytoplasm of gonadal cells that bind luteinizing or chorionic gonadotropic hormones and thereby cause the gonadal cells to synthesize and secrete sex steroids. The hormone-receptor complex is internalized from the plasma membrane and initiates steroid synthesis.  DF: RECEPT LH    Other names hCG Receptors; Receptors, Luteinizing Hormone; Receptors, Interstitial Cell-Stimulating Hormone; Receptors, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin; Receptors, Chorionic Gonadotropin; Lutropin Receptors; Luteinizing Hormone Receptors; LH-hCG Receptors; LH Receptors; ICSH Receptors; Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Receptors; Chorionic Gonadotropin Receptors; Receptors, LH hCG; Receptor, hCG; Receptor, Luteinizing Hormone; Receptor, Chorionic Gonadotropin; LH hCG Receptors; Receptor, LH; Hormone Receptors, Luteinizing; Hormone Receptor, Luteinizing
