Definition: A plant genus of the family POACEAE that is the source of wheat grain. A hybrid with rye (SECALE CEREALE) is called TRITICALE. The seed is ground into FLOUR and used to make BREAD, and is the source of WHEAT GERM AGGLUTININS.  wheat germ: index under TRITICUM, not TRITICUM /embryol; do not confuse X ref WHEAT with FAGOPYRUM nor TRITICUM with the rye-wheat hybrid TRITICALE; coordinate with specific PLANT STRUCTURES term if pertinent; for use in therapy coordinate IM with PHYTOT    Other names Wheat; Wheat, Durum; Durum Wheats; Triticum vulgare; Triticum turgidum; Triticum spelta; Triticum durum; Triticum aestivum; Durum Wheat
