Definition: A physiologically active metabolite of VITAMIN D. The compound is involved in the regulation of calcium metabolism, alkaline phosphatase activity, and enhances the calcemic effect of CALCITRIOL.  deficiency: coordinate 24,25-DIHYDROXYVITAMIN D 3 /defic (IM) with RICKETS (IM) or with VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY (IM)
