Mason-Pfizer monkey virus

Definition: A species of BETARETROVIRUS isolated from mammary carcinoma in rhesus monkeys. It appears to have evolved from a recombination between a murine B oncovirus and a primate C oncovirus related to the baboon endogenous virus. Several serologically distinct strains exist. MPMV induces SIMIAN AIDS.  infection: coord IM with SIMIAN ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME (IM) or if not so specified RETROVIRIDAE INFECTIONS (IM) + TUMOR VIRUS INFECTIONS (IM); DF: MPMV    Other names Simian retrovirus 2; Simian retrovirus 1; SRV-2; SRV-1; Mason Pfizer monkey virus; SRV-3; retrovirus 2, Simian; retrovirus 1, Simian; monkey virus, Mason-Pfizer
