Definition: Programs of disease surveillance, generally within health care facilities, designed to investigate, prevent, and control the spread of infections and their causative microorganisms.  differentiate from COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL which tends to be on a large geog, demog or social level (e.g., city, underprivileged, elementary school, prison) while INFECTION CONTROL tends to be restricted within hosp or other health care facilities;
