Definition: A film or video wholly or partially created by photographing drawings, sculptures, or other inanimate things in sequence to create the illusion of motion. Animations are also generated by computers. (From Moving Image Materials: Genre Terms, 1988)  this heading is used as a Publication Type. Used by catalogers only; animation as a subject is indexed under the main heading MOTION PICTURES; used for historical materials only. CATALOG: do not use for current materials
