The intended users of this site are medical professionals and researchers. It also contains some links to documents intended for the public.

The medical information on this site comes from 4 principal sources:

  • National Library of Medicine 2012 Medical Subject Headings
  • Drugs@FDA, May 2012
  • FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (AERS) Quarter 4, 2011
  • National Institutes of Health Unified Medical Language System (UMLS), 2004 version
  • Certain pages (labels, letters, etc) are retrieved directly from the FDA web site.
  • Articles and abstracts are retrieved directly from the MEDLINE/PubMed database over the web using the Entrez Programming Utilities provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Search and document recovery can be affected by the settings of your My NCBI account if you are logged in to it.
Each of these databases have multiple authors within the agencies that maintain them. There is a link to web sites describing the original sources on the pages that contain information from these databases.

The web site was set up by RES Inc. and has no external funding sources. The site is supported by advertising, and may also later have premium content for a fee. Advertising is clearly indicated and identifiable. The algorithm for determining what ad is placed on what page is automated and in most cases is not under our direct control. The major source of advertising placement is Google's AdSense program. This is indicated near each group of ads. Our editorial content is free of any commercial influence.

RES is a federally incorporated private company. It manages several reference web sites, most notably the Definition dictionary and the LookWAYup translation dictionaries.
