More on Deoxyribonuclease I Definition: An enzyme capable of hydrolyzing highly polymerized DNA by splitting phosphodiester linkages, preferentially adjacent to a pyrimidine nucleotide. This catalyzes endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA yielding 5'-phosphodi- and oligonucleotide end-products. The enzyme has a preference for double-stranded DNA.  do not confuse X ref STREPTODORNASE with STREPTODORNASE AND STREPTOKINASE: see note there; DF: note short X ref    Other names Streptodornase; DNase I; T7 Endonuclease I; T4 Endonuclease II; Endonuclease, DNA; DNase, Pancreatic; Thymonuclease; T7-Endonuclease I; T4-Endonuclease II; Pancreatic DNase; Nickase; Endonuclease I; Dornavac; DNAase I; DNA Nicking Enzyme; DNA Endonuclease
