Blastula

Definition: An early non-mammalian embryo that follows the MORULA stage. A blastula resembles a hollow ball with the layer of cells surrounding a fluid-filled cavity (blastocele). The layer of cells is called BLASTODERM.  non-mammalian only; mammalian, use BLASTOCYST    Other names Blastulae
