D-Alanine Transaminase

Definition: A PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE containing enzyme that catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group between D-Alanine and alpha-ketoglutarate to form PYRUVATE and D-GLUTAMATE, respectively. It plays a role in the synthesis of the bacterial CELL WALL. This enzyme was formerly classified as EC 2.6.1.10.      Other names Transaminase, D-Glutamate-D-Alanine; Transaminase, D-Alanine; D Glutamate D Alanine Transaminase; D Alanine Transaminase; D Alanine Aminotransferase; Aminotransferase, D-Alanine; D-Glutamate-D-Alanine Transaminase; D-Alanine Aminotransferase
