More on Thyroxine Definition: The major hormone derived from the thyroid gland. Thyroxine is synthesized via the iodination of tyrosines (MONOIODOTYROSINE) and the coupling of iodotyrosines (DIIODOTYROSINE) in the THYROGLOBULIN. Thyroxine is released from thyroglobulin by proteolysis and secreted into the blood. Thyroxine is peripherally deiodinated to form TRIIODOTHYRONINE which exerts a broad spectrum of stimulatory effects on cell metabolism.  /blood: consider also HYPERTHYROXINEMIA    Other names T4 Thyroid Hormone; Levothyroxine; L-Thyroxine; Thyroid Hormone, T4; LevoT; Levo T; Leo, Tiroxina; LThyroxin beta; LThyroxin Henning; L Thyroxine Roche; L Thyroxine; L Thyroxin beta; L Thyroxin Henning; L Thyrox; Delalande, Levothyroxin; Deladande, Levothyroxin; Berlin Chemie Brand of Levothyroxine Sodium; betapharm Brand of Levothyroxine Sodium; Watson Brand of Levothyroxine Sodium; Vortex Brand of Levothyroxine Sodium Drugs: THYROLAR-0.25LEVOXYL; LEVO-T; THYROLAR-1; THYROLAR-2; LEVOTHROID; UNITHROID; THYROLAR-3; EUTHROID-0.5; EUTHROID-1; THYROLAR-5; EUTHROID-2; EUTHROID-3; THYROLAR-0.5; LEVOLET; SYNTHROID; LEVOTHYROXINE SODIUM; NOVOTHYROX; TIROSINT;
