Wuchereria bancrofti

Definition: A white threadlike worm which causes elephantiasis, lymphangitis, and chyluria by interfering with the lymphatic circulation. The microfilaria are found in the circulating blood and are carried by mosquitoes.  infection: coord IM with probably ELEPHANTIASIS, FILARIAL (IM) but if elephantiasis is not present, coord with FILARIASIS (IM) instead; coord with specific helminth term (ANTIGENS, HELMINTH, etc) if pertinent; /drug eff: consider FILARICIDES    Other names Filaria sanguinis hominis; Filaria bancrofti; sanguinis hominis, Filaria; sanguinis homini, Filaria; hominis, Filaria sanguinis; homini, Filaria sanguinis; bancroftus, Wuchereria; bancroftus, Filaria; bancrofti, Wuchereria; bancrofti, Filaria; Wuchereria bancroftus; Filaria sanguinis homini; Filaria bancroftus
