Cholestenone 5 alpha-Reductase

Definition: An oxidoreductase that catalyzes the conversion of compounds that contain 5-alpha-cholestan-3-one into the cholest-4-en-3-one derivative. It plays an important role in the conversion of TESTOSTERONE into DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE and PROGESTERONE into DIHYDROPROGESTERONE.      Other names alpha-Reductase, Cholestenone 5; Cholestenone 5 alpha Reductase; 5 alpha-Reductase, Cholestenone; 5 alpha Reductase; 4 Ene Steroid 5 alpha Reductase; 5 alpha-Reductase; 4-Ene Steroid 5 alpha-Reductase
